Hott Engineering

Engineering that closes the loop.
First principles — Advanced simulation — Proven solutions.
I help clients solve complex mechanical and structural problems — bringing first principles thinking, advanced simulation, and fabrication experience so there's no gap in your engineering needs for design, analysis, or fabrication.
About
I am Daniel Hott, PE — a Tennessee-licensed engineer with a master's in mechanical engineering and over a decade of experience spanning structural and thermo-mechanical design, fabrication management, and advanced simulation. I started Hott Engineering to do the work I find most interesting: complex thermo-mechanical and structural problems where the engineering decisions impact the people on the other side of it.

Methods
Advanced Simulation
Decisions, not just analyses.
Nonlinear, thermal-structural, and fatigue finite element analysis in Abaqus CAE backed by analytical methods — built to answer the question that's actually being asked.
Fabrication -Aware Design
Designed to be built.
Mechanical and structural design informed by real fabrication experience — so what's analyzed can actually be built, and what's built reflects what was analyzed.
Design Optimization
Stronger, stiffer, lighter, simpler.
Optimization across geometry, material, and configuration — using closed-form analysis, parametric studies, or full FEA-driven topology and shape optimization, depending on what the problem actually needs.
Failure Analysis
Defensible root cause analysis.
Root-cause investigation and engineering support backed by simulation and first principles — for failures that need an accountable, well-supported answer.
Applications

Electronics thermal-structural reliability
Solder joint fatigue, package reliability, board-level mechanical response, and thermal cycling analysis

Structural and pressure systems
Finite element analysis and design support for steel connections, pre- and post-tensioned concrete, lifting and rigging, and ASME Section VIII pressure equipment

Early-stage product development
Design, analysis, prototyping, and structural testing for products and systems still in concept or development phases

Composites and additive manufacturing
Structural qualification of AM parts and analysis of composite structures

Manufacturing and prototyping support
Manufacturability review, weld distortion and residual stress prediction, and pre-production design validation
If your problem isn't here, ask anyway. The engineering methodology applies to anything.
